Terrapin (Syd Barrett)
In honor of dear Syd’s birthday, here’s one of the rarest songs I’ve ever shared on this blog. Don’t get too excited, it’s just me covering a Syd tune. Still: rare! Anyway, I encourage people to learn one of Barrett’s songs sometime. Even though there’s that off-kilter element, making listeners think “wow man Syd was so out of it,” these songs are very composed, if you know what I mean. They’re weirdly composed, sure, but with an intentionality and logic that is revealed when you play the songs yourself. At least that was my experience.
If you want some real Barrett, don’t forget to check out the recently surfaced 1967 Floyd show in Stockholm. It is the best thing ever.
