“Oh Susannah” - Neil Young & Dave Matthews, Bridge School Benefit, Oct. 23, 2011

I would’ve thought that the day would never come, but here we are. I’m posting a video featuring the much-loathed Dave Matthews. But I watched this because it provides a sneak peek at Neil’s upcoming Americana record — I’m assuming that the arrangement performed here is roughly the same as what will appear there. Ignore Dave (if you can!) and try to put in his place some Crazy Horse fuzz, a bunch of shaggy backing vocals and a long, blown-out guitar solo. I think it’ll sound good! Interestingly, Americana may be the longest percolating album in Neil’s career — he was performing most of the tracks as far back as 1964!
