Happy birthday, Prince! Linked to over on the Big Day Coming Facebook page, here’s this Purple covers album by James McNew, which I believe Mr. Rogers Nelson unceremoniously removed from official circulation several years ago. Or at least his lawyers did. Too bad! There are some truly great renditions here. I remember buying this on cassette from Other Music way back in college — I think it might have been one of the first things I ever ordered on the Internet, if you kids out there can even imagine that. But Prince should really get with Yo La Tengo! He would make a great guest at a future Hanukkah show. Stranger things have happened! OK, maybe they haven’t.
