The Howling Hex - Lost Lake Lounge, Denver, CO, June 7, 2012

Neil Michael Hagerty (ex-Pussy Galore, ex-Royal Trux) recently moved to the Mile High City and has been playing a bunch of shows. Good news for Denver, even if Denver doesn’t know it yet. There’s still time, Denverinos! Hagerty’s Howling Hex just kicked off an every-Thursday-in-June residency at the Lost Lake Lounge on E. Colfax. I was there last night and took this video of the opening tune. The sound is good, as the rhythm section lays down a metronomic Norteño beat and Hagerty scrawls insane guitar fuzz over the top. The visuals, I’m sorry to say, are terrible! The Lost Lake is dark. Or maybe the visuals are perfect, I don’t know. Anyway, I’m kind of fascinated by what Hagerty is up to these days — so strangely singular, pretty far from crowd-pleasing, but awesome nonetheless. Excited to check him out again this month!
