Grateful Dead - Hollywood Palladium, August 5, 1971
Show #6!!! Woo, this is a good one. Hart was out of the band for the time being, but what they lost in polyrhythmicality (totally a word!), they gained in deep, groovy soulfulness. This is mostly a nice SBD/AUD matrix until towards the end when it switches over to just plain AUD. Think of it as the audio equivalent of the camera dollying back into the crowd, man.
Choice cut: The interplanetary “That’s It For The Other One” is to-die-for, and it leads into a truly majestic “Wharf Rat.” Blammo!
PS - For the full experience, dig the tasty New Riders of the Purple Sage set, too!
