THE DREAM SYNDICATE: The Days of Wine and Roses — LIVE! They are not long, the days of wine and roses: Out of a misty dream Our path emerges for a while, then closesWithin a dream. In a few months , the Dream Syndicate’s awesome debut will turn 30 years old! In honor of this momentous anniversary, Steve Wynn recently announced that he and a few other former Syndicaters will take the album out on the road this fall — in Spain. For those of us who aren’t in Spain, here’s a version of Wine and Roses as played onstage by the original lineup, 1982-1983. Though the band was saddled with the fey-sounding “Paisley Underground” tag, one listen to these performances (all available on archive.org) should show that the Dream Syndicate was a pretty ferocious ensemble, probably able to keep up with the most hardcore of the hardcore bands that populated Southern California at the same time. Raw, loose and dangerous. When I interviewed Wynn many, many years ago, he said: “I like that feeling of danger—that sense that things could fall apart at any second.
