The Stars Are Screaming Loud
Since people seem to be digging the 1971 Floyd BBC broadcast I posted last week, here’s another BBC show from the previous year, again presented by the superhero known as John Peel. This one isn’t quite as fabulous as the ‘71 recording (few things are!), but it’s fabulous nonetheless. I especially love the mellowed out “Green Is The Colour,” which segues into a creepy “Careful With That Axe, Eugene.” But the real treasure here is the 25-minute “Atom Heart Mother,” performed with a full brass ensemble and a batshit choir. It’s even wilder than the version that appears on the album of the same name. Shine on!
