CAVE - Neverendless
This album begins and ends with two relentless motorik workouts, but don’t be fooled: CAVE is an American Band. You know, the kind that Grand Funk used to be. What do I mean? Not sure exactly, but I’ll try to explain. CAVE might be tagged as an experimental rock group, but I get the feeling that they esteem Creedence as much as Can, you know? They’re not afraid of classic rock moves, power chords, and, well, chooglin’. It’s backyard BBQ krautrock. And it is glorious. Neverendless is 40 minutes of straight-up sweetness, including the locked in groove of “WUJ” and the career highlight epic “This Is The Best.” Though these guys are no slouches in the chops department (especially powerhouse drummer Rex McMurray), CAVE’s sound is for the most part ego-less — there are no big “solo” showcases or anything. This is a band in search of the perfect wave to ride together. Surf’s up!!!
